Hoof Hearts
and other hoof symbols

Every G3 pony has at least one magnetic hoof, which interacts with the playset by opening doors and drawers or causing music to play. There is a small heart symbol on the foot where the magnet is found. Sometimes the symbol is more elaborate than a plain heart. Places on the playsets where a pony can use her magnetic hoof are also indicated by heart symbols.

Some prototypes, drawings, stuffed animals, and other products may show two hearts on the ponies’ hooves, but all the early mass-produced toys have only one heart. It is rumored that some versions of Pinkie Pie II, which came with the Perfect Hair set in Australia, have a double hoof-heart (like the MLP logo). It is unclear if additional ponies will ever have a double hoof heart.

When the first G3 ponies came out, there was confusion over the correct placement of the hoof heart. All the early ponies had hoof hearts on their display sides (same side as their cutie mark) and this did not always match up with the magnetic hoof. This error was corrected in later batches of the same ponies, which had their hoof hearts on the correct hoof.

Early ponies known to have mismatched hoof hearts include Butterscotch, Cotton Candy, Minty, Moondancer, Razzaroo, Sweetberry, Tink-a-tink-a-too, Winter Snow, and Wysteria. All of these ponies have counterparts where the hoof heart is on the correct foot.
